In France in 1564, Charles IX issued a decree mandating that the New Year be moved from April 1 to January 1. Some people continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April 1, and were pranked by giving them empty gifts.\n\nEpic pranks.\n\n\"The Washing of the White Lions\" was one of the first mass hoaxes, which took place back in 1860. Residents of London received quite formal invitations to attend the annual white lion washing ceremony in the Tower at 11 o'clock on April 1. The place of assembly was designated as the White Gate. As a result, Londoners hung around the walls of the Tower, unsuccessfully looking for this non-existent gate on top of everything else, until they realized what day it was on the calendar.\n\n\"Channel Blowing\" - quite an epic TV hoax, arranged by the regional TV channel \"Vesti\" in Chelyabinsk. The point was that all viewers were required to blow through all the available twisted pair in the house with a vacuum cleaner or at least hang its ends out the window for a couple of hours to air it out. At the same time they showed a server room where a guy was seriously pulling bundles of wires out of switches and shoving them into a working vacuum cleaner. The video is on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQNMgmshu7g\n\nThe most expensive hoax in modern Russian history cost its organizers €200,000. The victim was a famous Russian businessman whose friends arranged for him to have dinner with the Queen of Great Britain. The dinner was held, however, without the Queen.\n\nPlay go on April 1st and prank your opponent at the go board.\n\nThere will be no scandals, intrigues or investigations at this tournament. I want peace and quiet, peace and goodness, although that is never the case anywhere.\n\nAnd now for the nice part.
