the help of <a href=\"https://Gomagic.org\">GoMagic</a>, is hosting the January (2024) \"Morozko\" tournament.</p>\n\n<p>\"Morozko\" is a Soviet color musical fairy tale film produced at the Gorky Central Studio of Children's and Youth Films in 1964 by director Alexander Rowe, based on the Russian folk tale \"Morozko\".</p>\n\n<figure class = \"pic\">\n <img src=\"https://pavelgvozdev.ru/ogs_tournament/morozko/morozko_1.jpg\" width=500>\n<br>\n <figcaption>A still from the movie. Eduard Izotov as Ivan.</figcaption>\n</figure>\n\n<p>The film won the 1965 Venice Film Festival's top prize in the program of children's and youth films. Rowe was especially proud of this award, which became for him a symbol of international recognition. In the halls of the Palace of Cinema, one and a half thousand Italian children cheerfully applauded the Soviet fairy tale, and then after the screening excitedly acted out skits, amusingly copying the Russian Baba Yaga. More Russian emigrants came to the screening, many of them crying and shouting: \"Thank you for the white birches. Thank you for the Russian dawn.\"</p>\n\n<p>\"Morozko\" is, first of all, a collective image of various folk tales, someone even finds it similar to the Grimm brothers' fairy tale \"Mrs. Blizzard\". \"Morozko\" is the quintessence of everything Russian, mystical and mysterious.</p>\n\n<figure class = \"pic\">\n <img src=\"https://pavelgvozdev.ru/ogs_tournament/morozko/morozko_2.jpg\" width=500>\n<br>\n <figcaption>Director Alexander Rowe on the set of the movie.</figcaption>\n</figure>\n\n<p>It is worth telling a little about the places that were chosen for filming. The movie was created in the most picturesque parts of the country: summer scenes were filmed near Zvenigorod, and winter scenes - on the Kola Peninsula.</p>\n\n<p>\"Morozko\" absorbed the best technical developments of the director for many years of work in the movie. Many elements of scenery were equipped with the most modern at that time stage mechanisms, so that the screens \"came to life\" hut on chicken legs, and fluffy fir trees covered with a snow coat with the help of the magic staff \"Morozko\".</p>\n\n<figure class = \"pic\">\n <img src=\"https://pavelgvozdev.ru/ogs_tournament/morozko/morozko_3.jpg\" width=500>\n<br>\n <figcaption>A still from the movie. Eduard Izotov as Ivan and Natalia Sedykh as Nastenka.</figcaption>\n</figure>\n\n<p>Grotesque fairy-tale characters Rowe organically fit into the colorful and large-scale scenery, created by him together with talented screenwriters, connoisseurs of Russian folklore - Nikolai Erdman and Mikhail Volpin. It was they who helped to create the literary basis for Rowe's films and endow them with mystical, native Russian coloring.</p>\n\n<figure class = \"pic\">\n <img src=\"https://pavelgvozdev.ru/ogs_tournament/morozko/morozko_4.jpg\" width=500>\n<br>\n <figcaption>A still from the movie. Inna Churikova as Marfushka, Nastenka's half-sister.</figcaption>\n</figure>\n\n<p>Awards and reviews:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Czech Ambassador Jaroslav Bašta presented Inna Churikova with the Masaryk Silver Medal for her role as Marfusha.</li>\n <li>The movie \"Morozko\" received the Award of Excellence from the U.S. Film Advisory Board for the best screenplay for family viewing.</li>\n <li>1966 - All-Union Film Festival - Award of Excellence for the best film in the section of children's films.</li>\n <li>The film was shown in the U.S. on Mystery Science Theater 3000, where the hosts mock bad and low-budget films.
