href=\"https://Gomagic.org\">GoMagic</a> group on the OGS, is hosting the July (2024) \"Jazz standards - Take Five\" tournament with the help of <a href=\"https://Gomagic.org\">GoMagic</a>.</p>\n\n<p>Two bars of accompaniment are enough, and you can guess that Take Five is about to be played. This was the first jazz theme written in 5/4, and it was included on the 1959 album Time Out. Let me remind you that Dave Brubeck specifically created pieces in tricky sizes - 9/8, 6/4, 7/4 or used variable sizes (two bars by three, two bars by two). The fact that such a theme could become a hit and that it became a household name at musical gatherings is amazing, but if you think about it, isn't that proof that jazz is no longer a music for dancing? It's no coincidence that the Brubeck Quartet achieved its greatest popularity among American intellectuals, and its concerts were most often a success with student audiences.</p>\n\n<figure class = \"pic\">\n <img src=\"http://pavelgvozdev.ru/ogs_tournament/Jazz_standards_Take_Five/Take_five.jpg\" width=500>\n <figcaption>Dave Brubeck</figcaption>\n</figure>\n\n<p>Later, arrangements for big bands emerged, and vocal versions also appeared. A jazz standard - most often a popular song, less often an instrumental piece - is used by a jazz musician as the basis for individual or ensemble arrangements, in a spontaneous music-making setting or in a recording studio.</p>\n\n \n\n<p>Jazz standards, these are tunes that everyone knows and that have become classics of jazz music. Let's take a look at one of the jazz standards, the composition Now's the Time by Charlie Parker.</p>\n\n \n\n<p>Charlie Parker is one of the few musicians who radically influenced the development of jazz, the greatest saxophonist of all time. Together with trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie and pianist Bud Powell, Parker (nicknamed Yardbird or Bird) is considered the pioneer of bebop. As a performer, Parker possessed a unique sound, an unusually developed harmonic ear and an amazing phraseological logic. In the 50s of the last century it was already impossible to play modern jazz without taking into account Parker's achievements.</p>\n\n \n\n<figure class = \"pic\">\n <img src = \"https://pavelgvozdev.ru/ogs_tournament/jazz_standards/Portrait_of_Charlie_Parker_in_1947.jpg\" width=500>\n <figcaption>Portrait of Charlie Parker in 1947</figcaption>\n</figure>\n \n\n<p>Now's the Time. The theme was written in 1945. It is a blues based on simple repetitive riffs. Parker decided to use a simple intonation pattern that was always favored by musicians in his hometown, Kansas City. The first recording featured trumpeter Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie (playing piano), and double bassist Curley Russell and drummer Max Roach.
