In fact, a memorable date can be found every day. The USSR used to publish an annual \"tear-off\" calendar like this: <img src=\"https://pavelgvozdev.ru/ogs_tournament/may_holidays/calendar.jpg\" width=\"600px\" alt=\"the soviet calendar for every day\"> It consisted of 364 pages, one page for each day. When the day passed, the page had to be torn off. Each day of the calendar was marked with some memorable date. The Day of the Taking of the Bastille (July 14) was especially popular with people. Perhaps this popularity was due to the fact that Soviet citizens did not like to drink alcoholic beverages (vodka) for nothing. They always tried to drink in honor of some holiday. And Bastille Day was a holiday to drink in honor of. People honor the memory of the dead, lay bouquets at monuments and honor veterans.</p> \n\n<p>It is one of the most important holidays in Russia.</p>\n\n<h3>Day of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Navy - May 13</h3>\n\n<p>May 13 is the Day of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Navy. This holiday was established 22 years ago, on July 15, 1996, in accordance with the order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy.</p>\n\n<p>The very history of the emergence of the Black Sea Fleet is a history of continuous struggle, expansion of Russia to the south to protect its borders and neutralize potential adversaries. Officially, the Black Sea Fleet was founded in 1783 by order of Empress Catherine II. Its creation became possible after the Russian Empire incorporated the lands of the Crimean Khanate, primarily the Crimean Peninsula. Azov and Dnieper military flotillas, created during the Russian-Turkish war of 1768-1774, became the basis for the creation of the Black Sea Fleet. On May 13, 1783, 235 years ago, 11 ships of Azov military flotilla entered Akhtiarskaya bay on the south-western coast of the Crimea (now Sevastopol bays). In 1784 the 17 ships of the Dnieper military flotilla were transferred here. It is in memory of these events that the Day of the Black Sea Fleet is celebrated on May 13 every year.</p>\n\n<h3>Day of the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy - May 18</h3>\n\n<p>May 18, Russia celebrates the Day of the Baltic Fleet, one of the four fleets in the Russian Navy and the oldest among all existing fleets. The history of the Baltic Fleet is inextricably linked with the history of our country, the founding of St. Petersburg, the development of the land around the Gulf of Finland and the mouth of the Neva, with the era and the name of the first Russian emperor Peter I and his reforms that changed the country. On board the ships were 18 guns and 77 men of the crew, of whom 58 were killed in the assault and 19 were taken prisoner. The glorious victory of the Russian arms was the first military engagement on the Baltic, and the war moved from the land to the sea. The victory was symbolic and was of great significance for the formation of the entire Baltic fleet.</p>\n\n<h3>Day of Slavonic Script and Culture - May 24</h3>\n\n<p>Every year on May 24, the Day of Slavonic Script and Culture is celebrated in Russia. This holiday is connected with the names of two Slavic enlighteners, Cyril and Methodius, creators of Slavic alphabet, preachers of Christianity, first translators of liturgical books from Greek into Slavic.</p>\n\n<p>They are the Bulgarian enlighteners Cyril and Methodius, who created the first Slavic alphabet that we use to this day. They named the alphabet after the younger brother - Cyrillica.</p>\n\n<p>The history of Cyrillic is inseparably connected with Orthodoxy. Using this alphabet brothers made translations of Holy Scripture and a number of liturgical books from Greek.</p>\n\n<h3>All-Russian Library Day - May 27</h3>\n\n<p>This holiday originated in 1995 and was established by the President of the Russian Federation B.N. Yeltsin.</p>\n\n<p>The day of May 27th was not chosen by chance. This day is the foundation date of the first public library in Russia, the Imperial Public Library, which is called today the National Library of Russia.</p>\n\n<p>May 27, 1795 is the foundation date of the library.</p>\n\n<h3>Border Guard Day - May 28</h3>\n\n<p>May 28 is Border Guard Day. "description": "<link rel=\"stylesheet\" type=\"text/css\" href=\"https://<pavelgvozdev.ru/ogs_tournament>/<tournament.css>\">\n\n<p>Friends!!!</p>\n<p>Grandpa Frog, who is a member of the <a href=\"https://Gomagic.org\">GoMagic</a> group on the OGS, is hosting the February (2024) \"Baba Yaga\" tournament with the help of <a href=\"https://Gomagic.org\">GoMagic</a>.</p>\n\n<figure class = \"pic\">\n <img src=\"https://pavelgvozdev.ru/ogs_tournament/babayaga/BabaYaga.jpg\" width=500>\n <figcaption>Georgy Milyar as Baba Yaga.</figcaption>\n</figure>\n\n<p>Baba Yaga is a mysterious or ambiguous character from Slavic folklore who has two opposing roles. In some motifs she is described as a repulsive or fierce-looking old woman who roasts and eats children, while in others she is a sweet old woman who helps the hero.</p>\n\n<p>In East Slavic fairy tales, Baba Yaga is an old woman with supernatural powers and associated with the world of the dead, as evidenced by her appearance, place of residence and main functions. Her characteristic features are old age, decrepitude and ugliness (nose in the ceiling), emphasized female physiology (breasts hanging over the threshold). An important feature of Baba-Yaga is her one-legged or bone (less often - iron, wooden) leg, i.e. dead, devoid of flesh, which brings the character closer to other one-legged creatures of world mythology, having snake origin. There is a reason to consider Baba Yaga blind, as she recognizes the approach of a man by his smell. Baba Yaga's permanent attributes are a bread shovel, on which she tries to roast the hero, an oven, and a stupa, in which she moves with the help of a pestle.</p>\n\n<figure class = \"pic\">\n <img src=\"https://pavelgvozdev.ru/ogs_tournament/babayaga/BabaYaga_2.jpg\" width=500>\n <figcaption>Georgy Milyar as Baba Yaga.</figcaption>\n</figure>\n\n<p>Baba Yaga's dwelling is a cramped hut, which stands on poles or goat (goat, sheep) legs or on one leg, sometimes propped up with pancakes. The bird legs of the hut have no definite explanation, their erection to tree trunks with roots, on which forest benches were placed, is doubtful. The fence around the hut consists of human bones and skulls. Baba-Yaga lies in the hut on the floor, on a bench or on the stove, occupying almost the entire space (resting her head on one wall and her feet on the other), which brings her dwelling closer to a coffin, and Baba-Yaga herself to a dead man. The hut is located on the border of the forest, being the only passageway between the human and the otherworld (\"Tridevyatiye Tsarstvo\"), where the hero of the fairy tale must get to solve a magical problem. The hut has its doors turned towards the forest, so to enter, the hero must turn its front part towards himself with the help of a special formula, and also pass a test with Baba Yaga, who at first intends to eat him. On it tried many actresses, including Faina Ranevskaya. But the director refused to all: he was afraid that Baba Yaga in their performance will not be scary enough, will not scare the audience. Then she volunteered to play Milyar: \"It is not a female role. Tell me, what actress will allow to make herself so scary on the screen? He watched how to move and talk to older women. Milyar recalled: \"Abundant material gave me a neighbor in the communal room. Character she was terrible, squabbling, she had to be sure someone to quarrel.\" Imitated the actor and one old lady, which he saw in Yalta.</p>\n\n<p>The role of Baba Yaga glorified Milyar. After \"Vasilisa the Beautiful\" he played this character several times in other movies-fairy tales Rowe. The actor called Baba Yaga his favorite hero.</p>\n\n<p>After the role of Baba Yaga Georgi Milyaru began to offer only negative characters.
