mark5000[6d]: This is a text-based lesson. There's no audio or video.
Andre br[18k]: ^ same question! Can't listen now but appreciate if it's text bases
Andre br[18k]: Text based*
mark5000[6d]: This lesson is part of my lesson series becoming 9-kyu-a-series-for-beginners

mark5000[6d]: o/ bugcat
GKCDQ[6k]: P3 !
dachen11[3k]: o2
bugcat[1d]: What is this joseki? I've never seen it
Andre br[18k]: P3?
THE_ME[2k]: 02
mark5000[6d]: It's not joseki--only a construct
bugcat[1d]: ah, OK

daniel.maryanovsky6de02f114b09455e[5k]: and as a result of that cut, black loses the three in the corner
GKCDQ[6k]: so yeah O2 i guess is better
GKCDQ[6k]: forces white to make a choice
Move 0 + 20
daniel.maryanovsky6de02f114b09455e[5k]: too much aji after the connection
Move 0 + 15
daniel.maryanovsky6de02f114b09455e[5k]: black connects instead?
Move 0 + 16
Ropeyboy[6d]: can you play r1 instead of r2?
Move 0 + 17
mark5000[6d]: Yes, I think so.
mark5000[6d]: But you may leave more ko threats for your opponent.
Ropeyboy[6d]: i see
Move 0 + 12
GKCDQ[6k]: S14 ?
rbhernandez92[7k]: cut and sacrifice?
Move 0 + 11
GKCDQ[6k]: T14 ?
mark5000[6d]: I imagine many of you found the answer by now.
ayaros[4k]: R14
rbhernandez92[7k]: q15?
juaniten[4k]: r14
GKCDQ[6k]: yeah it's R14
Move 0 + 12
GKCDQ[6k]: pieak at the nose or whatever
Move 0 + 16
rbhernandez92[7k]: leaves white very vulnerable to another cut
Move 0 + 17
rbhernandez92[7k]: i see it now, thank you
mark5000[6d]: That's all the material that I planned for today. Any questions about these positions, about clamping, or other questions?
Move 0 + 15
GKCDQ[6k]: i have a question
GKCDQ[6k]: in both your examples, clamping was very usefull because it was close to the edge of the board
GKCDQ[6k]: would you say it's more used on the edges than further away ?
Move 0 + 11
mark5000[6d]: Yes
FrostedNuke[2d]: there are non edge clamps still
mark5000[6d]: It's most common on the second line, and also the third line.
mark5000[6d]: Of course clamping can work on the fourth line and above, too. The second and third lines are only the most common.
Move 0 + 15
GKCDQ[6k]: Thank you very much for your time :)
Move 0 + 11
rbhernandez92[7k]: thank you. this is my first lesson. do they happen regularly?
ayaros[4k]: Thank you Mark5000
juaniten[4k]: Thank you very much! My first lesson too, I did'nt know those existed!
GentleBent[5k]: very good, thanks a lot!
mark5000[6d]: You're welcome. I give these lessons on Saturdays. The time is not consistent, because I have a newborn to care for. But you can find past lessons at becoming 9-kyu-a-series-for-beginners
jaydfox[10k]: In both examples, the clamping stones were on the same line, relative to the edge. How does the situation change when a clamp is stacked away from the edge, e.g., black on the 2nd and 4th lines, white on the 3rd?
Move 0 + 15
rbhernandez92[7k]: great thank you! good luck with the infant. all staying healthy, i hope :)
Move 0 + 11
mark5000[6d]: jaydfox, that would be somewhat rare.
Move 0 + 3
mark5000[6d]: This isn't a connecting tactic.
mark5000[6d]: Suppose you're in the endgame
Move 0 + 9
mark5000[6d]: White can attach alternately like this
mark5000[6d]: It's possible sometimes
mark5000[6d]: Does that make sense?
jaydfox[10k]: I see, the stone on R14 made it possible.
mark5000[6d]: Yes!
March 22, 2020
mark5000[6d]: All right. Thank you everyone!
