Move 9
July 19, 2009
Uberdude[?]: Not my usual style, but I played it as it was in Go Seigen's book "A way of play for the 21st century" I was flicking through at the time.
Move 56
davos[?]: I didn't feel too bad about this result.
Move 63
davos[?]: Big, but perhaps a bit slow?
davos[?]: I think I would prefer b O3
Move 11
Uberdude[?]: He says in this position the push here is the vital point for the lower moyo. If white extends then it is a good exchange despite pushing on 4th line and then I come back to r3.
Move 12
Uberdude[?]: So naturally you resist, and I have to figure what to do myself now as he doesn't cover this in his book =)
Move 91
davos[?]: I felt grateful that black didn't connect at F4
Move 121
davos[?]: I think B9 is bigger.
Move 12
Uberdude[?]: The fair sequence he expects is p5 p6 q5 o6 r6 r7 r5 o5 s7 r8 s8 r9.
Move 137
davos[?]: I did not expect this move. If black plays L19 instead, he keeps sente to play J2.
Move 18
Uberdude[?]: What is your evaluation of the result? I think probably good for me to get such great thickness early, but I failed to use it effectively. p2 is really annoying though as j4 is poorly placed now. I wanted to get n2 fairly soon, but couldn't find a good answer to L3.
Move 19
Uberdude[?]: Maybe this is too close.
Move 87
davos[?]: At this point I felt that black might have the lead, but he loses it in the early endgame.
Move 29
Uberdude[?]: Maybe I should make the wall for a bug right side, but locally it is good for you to get such a big corner and make o15 bad.
Move 56
Uberdude[?]: Yes, My thickness is pointless and I didn't get much profit. f17 is too narrow, cut when I c14 you are happy to f17.
Move 63
Uberdude[?]: Yes, I also have a bad game against luke where I played this too early. I was hopping to attack your group, but L16 aji gave you nice sabaki.
Uberdude[?]: I was thinking of n2, o3 hadn't occured to me.
Uberdude[?]: Also I was thinking of L3 myself, but it's not territory.
Move 70
Uberdude[?]: A little slow?
Move 72
Uberdude[?]: I did wonder if I should try to play this area in sente first, maybe e14. But if you c9 I doubt I can kill your group.
Move 77
Uberdude[?]: Vulgar, but perhaps atari as probe is correct here.
Move 82
Uberdude[?]: More hilarious overconcentration =(
Move 87
Uberdude[?]: I felt a little behind so needed something special in the centre.
Move 91
Uberdude[?]: Yes, this is obviously a submissive move. I was thinking about eyes for my group (which is obviously paranoid and a guaranteed way to lose) and hoping to keep some chances to profit at the top.
Uberdude[?]: Also I was thinking if you captured then L12 could get lonely but as you say F4 is better, I need to be flexible.
Move 98
Uberdude[?]: At this point I suspected you would simply get more points than me.
Move 117
Uberdude[?]: My thinking here was b7 was your sente, and by doing this I make it gote.
Move 121
Uberdude[?]: It is certainly bigger than s13, which was a misread (I though it was gote but s15 would capture the 2 stones in sente rather than gote). My original plan was to play f2 here, you a6 and then I get c18 for tedomari. But maybe simple b9 is best.
Move 128
Uberdude[?]: How did I miss this move =(
Move 137
Uberdude[?]: Yes, I was in a panic. I should have not blitzed. I need j2 to have a chance to win as the k3 ko is huge.
Move 18
davos[?]: I think this result is to be expected when white does not play P6.
The thickness feels good for black, but indeed it is hard for black to figure out how to handle the bottom and white has sente.
I might play this again with either black or white if the situation comes up.
Move 144
Uberdude[?]: Game over.
Move 19
davos[?]: You mean that black could have played Q11 instead?
I think that looks ok too.
Perhaps black could also play Q12.
Uberdude[?]: Or r11. The usual move then for w to 3-3 leaves black with bad aji on the outside, but as I am thick I prepare to fight hard if you try to squirm there.
Move 29
davos[?]: True, but it might still be black's best option. I don't know. It's a pity we can't ask Go Seigen :)
Move 39
davos[?]: Wouldn't O14 be ok too?
Move 68
davos[?]: White is thin at the top, but I felt that L3 would give white a reasonable game.
Move 70
davos[?]: Perhaps, but I was afraid of b N3 if white plays elsewhere.
Move 71
davos[?]: But indeed, the game is now less easy than I had imagined when I played L3.
Move 87
davos[?]: So how did you evaluate the position at this stage?
Move 98
davos[?]: I felt slightly better now than at move 87.
Move 99
davos[?]: Why not B9?
Move 103
davos[?]: I expected black to play J2 first.
Move 106
davos[?]: I think this move is not very good.
Move 156
davos[?]: A misread. I thought this was sente.
Move 244
davos[?]: Oops, chinese rules. Luckily white can afford to lose 2 points.
Move 23
Uberdude[?]: Given I wasn't happy to take the wall and give you a big corner perhaps this is wrong. I could q14 q13 p14 r13 r15 and attach hard.
Move 27
Uberdude[?]: In fact here I could p17 and then when you r16 I s15 immediately.
Move 39
Uberdude[?]: But then you k17.
Move 87
Uberdude[?]: I felt behind a little on territory, but with some centre potential. I was sad I found no good way to profit by attacking f17.
Move 99
Uberdude[?]: then you crosscut.
Move 103
Uberdude[?]: But then you j5 and damage the middle
Move 106
Uberdude[?]: Not as bad as my yose :-s
Move 128
Uberdude[?]: Or rather the fact that after I connect you tenuki and your corner is alive.
Move 87
davos[?]: So you think that black is behind if he connects at F4?
Move 103
davos[?]: If b J2, w J5, b K3, white has to connect before he can do any damage, so i think the damage will be less than black's gain at the bottom.
