White wins by Resignation
Samraku[10k]: gl hf!
Move 2
saxmaam[14k]: 4-4 seems pretty safe as a first move
Samraku[10k]: mm hmm
Move 3
Samraku[10k]: I've decided that 4-4 is my favorite first move as black and that 4-4 upper left is my favorite response to it as white
Move 7
saxmaam[14k]: so what are you thinking now?
Move 8
saxmaam[14k]: mmm ... abandoned joseki to mess up my "house"
Samraku[10k]: that k3 let's you play f3 and if I want to play h3 to help l3 while dealing with f3, then I'm overconcentrated
Samraku[10k]: so one over
Samraku[10k]: and yeah, you wanted that side, so I wanted it
Samraku[10k]: 6 space is kindof odd, but it used to be really popular in china ages ago, so it can't be that bad
Samraku[10k]: and I figure that as long as I have a reason for doing it, as I do here, it can't be that bad to play even if my reasoning is, unbeknownst to me, flawed.
Move 28
Samraku[10k]: have you seen the recent video that "sunday go lessons" on YT put out which contained this joseki?
Samraku[10k]: It's the only reason I knew it
saxmaam[14k]: no ...
saxmaam[14k]: how far does the real joseki go?
saxmaam[14k]: the one I know is this
Samraku[10k]: d10 is the end of it
saxmaam[14k]: Variation: one I know
Samraku[10k]: except I exchanged h2 which is not in the joseki because I didn't like how the cuts affected the l3 stone, but I wtill wanted to tenuki to d10
Samraku[10k]: yeah, I wasn't going to play that, though I normally would
Samraku[10k]: I very much wanted to take sente to take d10 even if I got a bad result locally
saxmaam[14k]: I think you got a great result
Samraku[10k]: Variation: I was planning when I played c4
saxmaam[14k]: what should I be thinking about here?
Samraku[10k]: I think the result is even locally
saxmaam[14k]: M17 N3 R10 F17
saxmaam[14k]: I'm thinking about those
saxmaam[14k]: m17 I would give you more influence so I don't like that
saxmaam[14k]: N3 small but steady
Samraku[10k]: m17 and f17 seem natural to me. r10 seems low and n3 seems small, though since n3 puts pressure on l3 it may be bigger than it looks
Samraku[10k]: almost sente
Move 29
saxmaam[14k]: bad thing about f17 is that it ends with sente for W
Move 37
saxmaam[14k]: unless of course, you choose that other joseki that I can't quite remember
Move 38
saxmaam[14k]: Gotta review that
Samraku[10k]: I like the c16 for d15 exchange for me because of it's effect on the g16 double-hane
Move 39
saxmaam[14k]: holy smokes, that's over my head
Samraku[10k]: I could be wrong, but according to my reading, I can net g16 immediatley instead of laddering it towards a black stone or setting up a net around it like the joseki normally goes
Samraku[10k]: Variation: normal variation if white doesn't have the ladder
saxmaam[14k]: ok
Samraku[10k]: maybe not quite, but I get a big attack
Samraku[10k]: Variation: not quite dead, but huge attack
Samraku[10k]: still very good for me
Move 40
saxmaam[14k]: so I feel like I should q10 or something like that
saxmaam[14k]: agree?
Samraku[10k]: if you think that your moyo + your territory is bigger than my moyo + my territory, then yes. If the opposite, then reduce/invade
Samraku[10k]: At least, that's my understanding of the general thinking
saxmaam[14k]: and how do you evaluate this board?
Samraku[10k]: g6 is one of the possible finishing moves for the lower left joseki, btw.
Samraku[10k]: umm
Samraku[10k]: upper left 10, upper right 10, lower right 16, lower left 6
Samraku[10k]: then add 2 caps and right moyo
Samraku[10k]: now is that bigger than white's moyo?
saxmaam[14k]: white seems bigger?
Samraku[10k]: so white's moyo needs to make about 38 points more than blacks to win
Samraku[10k]: I like white's chances, but your mileage may vary
saxmaam[14k]: W looks bigger to me, but obviously very reduceable
Samraku[10k]: I'd agree
saxmaam[14k]: B moyo is smaller but easier to defend
Move 47
Samraku[10k]: white's has more potential to expand, though
saxmaam[14k]: how so?
Move 49
Samraku[10k]: my moyo was radiating a lot of influence in addition to being a moyo. you'res was all on the 3rd and 4th lines and you gave me sente with q10, though to be fair, if you hadn't played q10, I probably would have played it
Move 51
saxmaam[14k]: can you say more about what "radiating influence" means?
Samraku[10k]: Variation: Influence from before.
Samraku[10k]: There was a larger area around my stones where I would have had an advantage over you if you played there.
Move 52
saxmaam[14k]: is it kind of like "outward facing walls"?
Move 53
Samraku[10k]: yep
Samraku[10k]: outward facing walls radiate influence
Move 54
saxmaam[14k]: cool. see, I knew you had something to teach me
Move 67
Samraku[10k]: now that I have two walls facing eachother, it should be very difficult if not impossible for you to invade
Move 69
saxmaam[14k]: right
Move 74
saxmaam[14k]: I'm terrible at counting, but this looks like W's game
saxmaam[14k]: do you count?
Samraku[10k]: yeah, but I haven't this game since I did so in chat
Samraku[10k]: one sec
Samraku[10k]: b right 79, b lower left 8, b upper left 10, total 99
Move 75
Samraku[10k]: w center 146, total 152.5
Move 94
saxmaam[14k]: ok ... I think that's as far as I want to go
Samraku[10k]: ok
saxmaam[14k]: thank you for the game/lesson
Samraku[10k]: do you want to review together? Maybe you saw something I missed
saxmaam[14k]: Heh. not that I noticed.
saxmaam[14k]: Variation: right here ... B should have re-evaluated and done something to keep W from getting that big middle
saxmaam[14k]: Variation: right here ... B should have re-evaluated and done something to keep W from getting that big middle
