MSO GRAND PRIX 9x9 GO TOURNAMENT

Fri, Mar 10, 2023 7:06 PM - Profile picturePaul Smith[2k]

The organisers are Paul Smith (Paul Smith on OGS) and Matt Marsh (marshmn on OGS).

Please make sure you use the correct settings when making a challenge! It’s particularly important NOT to set the game as private (so that we can see it is happening) and to use the correct time settings (to make sure you finish in time for the next round). The settings are:

  • Private - MUST NOT BE TICKED!
  • Rules - AGA
  • Game Speed - Blitz
  • Time Control - Fischer
  • Initial Time - 3 minutes
  • Time Increment - 3 seconds
  • Max Time - 3 minutes
  • Ranked - no tick
  • Board Size - 9x9
  • Handicap - None (unless we say differently in the draw)
  • Komi - Automatic
  • Your Color - Black
  • Disable Analysis - tick

If you play a whole game using the wrong settings the result will have to stand.

Also please note that this is a Swiss system tournament. We will do the draw manually for round 1 and part of round 2, and we will adjust the draw manually for players weaker than 20-kyu. But the rest of the draw will be automatic so it’s quite possible you could have some opponents who are a very different grade to you!

At the start of the tournament, please say hello in the chat box below by 1:45pm so that we know you have arrived (otherwise you might get missed out of the draw!). Please note, you need to have a validated email address in OGS to be able to use all the OGS chat facilities.

Please note that the time limit is fast so be careful not to run out of time, make sure you have sound switched on so you will hear the time count down when it is short.

We will use the chat box to communicate during the tournament, and the draw will appear on the page https://www.britgo.org/msogp2023. We will have 8 rounds, and hope to finish around 4:30pm. If you need to drop out of the tournament at any point, please let us know in plenty of time before the next round.

The BGA will publish the results of the tournament on their web pages and the MSO will also report some information about the results. The MSO can give medals and junior medals to people in the top places but you would need to pay a small fee to receive these.

Good luck to everyone playing in the tournament!
