[12:14] saxmaam[13k]: hola!
Move 3
[14:45] fastuous[12k]: Howdy! Congrats on your win vs that other guy.
January 29, 2025
[17:14] saxmaam[13k]: thanks
Move 11
January 31, 2025
[19:10] fastuous[12k]: I see you playing the large knight's extension from 3-3 a lot. I find it interesting, what led you to adopt this opening?
February 1, 2025
[14:03] saxmaam[13k]: when i started playing, i learned a joseki ...
[14:04] saxmaam[13k]: oh wait
[14:05] saxmaam[13k]: i think large knight's move from a 3-3 is just simple. do you think it's holding me back?
[14:12] saxmaam[13k]: i was just looking around. it's not in OGS Joseki Explorer or the book
[14:12] saxmaam[13k]: 38 basic joseki
[14:13] saxmaam[13k]: In josekipedia the comment on it is "very common enclosure" and it's color coded green for "ideal move"
[14:13] saxmaam[13k]: maybe that's where i got the idea to use it
[14:14] saxmaam[13k]: i'd share the link to the position but I didn't see how to
Move 12
[18:01] fastuous[12k]: I don't think it's holding you back or anything. AI certainly thinks it's perfectly fine. It's just most of the learning resources I've used have focused more on 4-4 and 3-4 joseki, so I was wondering where your fondness for this enclosure came from.
Move 16

[0:32] saxmaam[13k]: the dialog in my head when I play the 3-3 goes "this will be a corner i don't have to worry about for a while"
Move 34
February 6, 2025
[18:35] saxmaam[14k]: i didn't play what i intended . but if you don't want to grant undo I understand
Move 33
February 7, 2025
[13:19] saxmaam[14k]: i think this is what i intended, but I don't know that i like it. so awkward
Move 35
[14:41] fastuous[12k]: I'm pretty sure you just played the same move. 🤔
[17:09] saxmaam[14k]: in that case i must've decided on R9. oh well.
Move 69

[17:26] saxmaam[15k]: dang. this is looking bad for me. I'm tempted to resign

March 11, 2025
[13:21] saxmaam[15k]: well played. thanks for the game!
[13:29] fastuous[11k]: Thanks! Good game! I miss playing you in person though, we'll have to remedy that sometime soon. 👍
[13:34] saxmaam[15k]: i agree. moving and selling a house brings a lot of tasks with it! not to mention the general adulting.
[13:34] saxmaam[15k]: i am working toward a better equilibrium, though, which will include sunday morning Go
[13:36] saxmaam[15k]: Are you and Cynthia planning to attend the Go Congress?
March 13, 2025
[4:47] fastuous[11k]: Understandable. I hope your life settles down soon. 🤞
[4:48] fastuous[11k]: We weren't planning on it, no. Don't think we have a week of PTO to spare. 😕
[4:48] fastuous[11k]: Are you going?
[11:46] saxmaam[16k]: i am going!
[11:50] saxmaam[16k]: moves 30-40 really hurt me in this game
[14:13] fastuous[11k]: How exciting! I'm jealous. Maybe one of these years I'll make it.
[14:15] fastuous[11k]: Yea, getting such a strong/settled group so early in the game is a pretty big deal it seems. I also felt a lot better once I built that wall on the 7th line with moves 57-67.
[14:18] fastuous[11k]: I have a few concepts that I'm still really struggling with, and one of them is judging the value of unsettled territory in the middle. It seems like I'm always fighting for what appears to be a big area in the middle, but then AI (and sometimes people at Go club) are like "No, there's not a lot of points in the middle there, just do 2nd and 1st line sente."
[14:19] fastuous[11k]: So I guess judging when the endgame starts? I don't see a solution besides playing more games to gain experience.
[14:31] saxmaam[16k]: i watched the Clossi Approach videos until I couldn't understand them any more. He gives a criterion for starting endgame. I ranked up after that, and I suspect that one reason I'm ranking down is that I've quit following that advice so strongly
[14:31] saxmaam[16k]: they're on Youtube
[14:48] saxmaam[16k]: now i've told you my secret resource, i expect you'll be 1 dan next month
[15:09] fastuous[11k]: Hahaha. Funnily enough I actually discovered the Clossi approach series last week!! They're really good videos. I haven't made it through all of them yet, but they've already taught me a lot. I think primarily that I need to actually read cutting points while I'm playing instead of just saying "Yea that looks pretty good." 😆
[15:10] fastuous[11k]: Maybe once I get far enough in the series I'll have some answers, or at least a framework.
