Move 91
March 25, 2025
[22:09] Senokir[1d]: Variation: No need to atari this one white stone. Playing something like this will help to make the two black stones safe and ensure the white stone has no where to run.
[22:13] Senokir[1d]: Variation: These 3 black stones make a shape called an empty triangle. The reason it is "empty" is because there is no whithe stone at the triangle spot. Empty triangles are very bad like 99% of the time.
[22:13] Senokir[1d]: Variation: Same idea as before and avoids the empty triangle.
[22:15] Senokir[1d]: Variation: Notice how white has 2 "filled triangles" and black has another empty triangle here. Filled triangles are very good.
[22:21] Senokir[1d]: Variation: Black doesn't need to connect at A. It's usually bad for white to wedge in between two black stones like that anyway.
[22:23] Senokir[1d]: Variation: These 3 black stones make a shape called a "tiger's mouth". Good shape to remember as it protects the triangle cut and in this case also hurts the white stone and protects the left side for black.
[22:26] Senokir[1d]: Variation: This move that you played at C10 was very good. It creates a filled triangle which is very strong. Same thing, hurts white stones, protects left side, leaves no cut. You'll also hear this particular move called a "turn" since it's like you are turning around white's stones like this.
[22:29] Senokir[1d]: Variation: Another dreaded empty triangle. In this case it's better to play away entirely somewhere like B or C but even if you are going to play in this area still, you can "hane" here like this. The cut at A does not work for white.
[22:30] Senokir[1d]: Variation: If white tries to cut at A, black can capture it in a "ladder" (series of forced ataris that are inescapable). You can scroll through this variation to see it in action if you like.
[22:34] Senokir[1d]: Variation: Ladder example: black can capture the white stone in a ladder with A.
[22:36] Senokir[1d]: Variation: The white stones stay in atari every single move. If they keep trying to run like this they will eventually hit the edge of the board or a black stone and die.
[22:36] Senokir[1d]: Variation: White's stone at B "breaks" the ladder at A.
[22:38] Senokir[1d]: Variation: If black plays out the ladder anyway, white will eventually connect to their stone and gain enough liberties to take advantage of all of the double ataris at X.
