[13:55] scotto[10k]: This is from the Benkyo Baduk discord. It's a seasonal event for their league member - I'm not in the league.
[14:00] scotto[10k]: Aside from rewards for league prizes, I think the reasoning is to force you out of you comfort zone, to have to adapt, etc. and have some fun too.
[14:02] scotto[10k]: They did it 4 times last year with a different starting position each time. This year they included some lore and a story line for the 2025 events.
[14:08] scotto[10k]: So it looks like the starting positions will represent entities in the lore. A bird, in this case.

[17:56] scotto[10k]: I recently got a hold of an old MacBook Pro circa 2009. It was upgraded to El Capitan and an SSD at some point. The web browser was complaining about most sites; updating the system certificate fixed that.
[17:57] scotto[10k]: The I upgraded the python install from 3.5 to 3.12 which also included some related certificate(s). That allowed me to do some pip3 installs...
Move 3
[22:08] sigue[2k]: ah, El Capitán, I remember it well. (Well, just the name.)
[22:09] sigue[2k]: My Macbook Pro is basically a fancy terminal for me to run a browser and emacs. That's mostly it. :)
Move 4
[22:10] sigue[2k]: I bought it because it has a really nice display and keyboard. Couldn't stand the displays and keyboards I tried out on Windows laptops.
[23:15] scotto[10k]: My primary interest is to have a machine I can use while sitting in my porch or out on my patio.
[23:17] scotto[10k]: We don't run wi-fi, so it would be non-internet stuff - programming, reviewing go games, playing go AI...
[23:18] scotto[10k]: I use my old ipad-mini (2011) as a book reader and for go stuff. Use ifuse to put stuff on it via usb on my linux box.
[23:20] scotto[10k]: But also interested in potential hacking/upgrading stuff like the open core legacy patcher.

[3:51] sigue[2k]: Did you pause the game, or did I pause it? Anyway, I unpaused it, thinking that I must have paused it by mistake.
[14:29] scotto[10k]: I didn't even notice, so I guess one of us did it by accident.

[23:12] scotto[10k]: In case you're interested, the North American Pro Tournament-2025 is happening April 3, 4, and 5. Two rounds completed today, 2 on Friday and 1 on Saturday. Here's the results table and schedule.
[23:12] scotto[10k]: You can watch live on the AGA youtube channel.

[0:08] scotto[10k]: Oh Boy!! I got my Turbo Tax. I'm gonna get to boot up Win10....
Move 72
[20:12] sigue[2k]: I seem to have mostly no more reasons to boot up Windows. Got TurboTax for macOS this year.
[20:18] scotto[10k]: I can't upgrade the old macbook to Ventura without doing some hacking, so have to go Windows.
Move 75
[20:25] scotto[10k]: I don't see why we have to do any tax filing, unless we have some significant cash / off-the-books type income. They can't confirm that everything we file is correct without already knowing that's the case.
[20:26] scotto[10k]: So the only reason to file, is to support tax filing businesses.
Move 77
[20:37] sigue[2k]: Yep, I hate myself for buying TurboTax. They lobby heavily against tax simplification and similar stuff.
[20:37] sigue[2k]: But i'm kind of locked in for now.
[20:38] sigue[2k]: Tax wealth, not income. :)
Move 85
[20:51] scotto[10k]: I'm not sure what the best way to tax is. Seems what ever method it'll be corrupted.
Move 88
[20:59] sigue[2k]: A cynic, I see. hehe
[21:00] sigue[2k]: I'm happy about your WI Supreme Court judge election outcome.
Move 90
[21:01] scotto[10k]: Me, a cynic?! :-)
Move 93
[21:03] sigue[2k]: Really there is no good reason why rich people should be able to hide their wealth in the Caymans or wherever. We should shut that down and get back to the taxes we had on the rich back in the 50s.
Move 95
[21:08] scotto[10k]: I've thought that a consumption tax could be a reasonable choice. Of course, it has to consider that there is a base amount of consumption to live that would not be taxed. And that would need to actually be a decent level, i.e. not poverty level.
[21:09] scotto[10k]: Then all the rich folks pay when they but their yachts and fancy car collections and mansions...
[21:11] scotto[10k]: But, I don't know if it could be ultimately implemented in a fair way.
[21:20] sigue[2k]: I think a consumption tax wouldn't tax the rich very much at all. They only spend a tiny percent of their wealth on goods and services. Mostly they just sit on it and gain interest and dividends.
[21:21] sigue[2k]: Sometimes they invest it in businesses, which is great, but mostly they just accumulate it, which serves nobody well.
Move 96
[21:39] scotto[10k]: This is the point in the game where I don't know what the heck to do....
Move 97
[21:41] sigue[2k]: The move I was most worried about was around b16 since it threatens to either live in the corner or connect to c12.
Move 98
[21:42] scotto[10k]: I was thinking about that corner, but thought C12 was a bit too far away to provide support.
Move 99
[21:45] scotto[10k]: I also thought if I played B16 and you just blocked that somehow, I wouldn't have much room to live with your D10 group behind me.
[21:47] sigue[2k]: it would be tough

[0:40] scotto[10k]: Ya know, I thought you might play there.
Move 112
[16:01] scotto[10k]: Good game, sensei :-)
[16:04] scotto[10k]: at 38 I should take the corner, not save the 3 stones....
[16:06] scotto[10k]: Had thought about F2 around move 40+ but wasn't sure about timing.
[16:08] scotto[10k]: Upper left 3-3 something I should/could have done fairly early....
[17:00] sigue[2k]: The computer spends a lot of time telling us both to just take the corners.
