Move 25
January 5, 2016
Kipcool[24k]: it would be nice if you leave me a bit of territory in the end :)
Move 26
pathogenix[7k]: I'm not intentionally picking on you... I just haven't played in a long while, and I'm trying to remember how go works.
pathogenix[7k]: We can review afterward if you like :)
Move 27
January 6, 2016
Kipcool[24k]: I just started two weeks ago. Would be nice if you could point out my main mistakes afterwards indeed.
Move 28
pathogenix[7k]: glad to :)
Move 29
pathogenix[7k]: Right now, you need to go help those stones in the upper right. Black can kill them really easily
pathogenix[7k]: I think the stones in the lower left might be beyond help
Kipcool[24k]: ah... lol
Move 30
pathogenix[7k]: F8 is the move I want to play, I haven't read it out, but it looks *really* painful for white
Move 31
Kipcool[24k]: That's the attack I just missed in another game :(
Kipcool[24k]: if you play F8 I would answeer G8
Kipcool[24k]: I believe you if you say it will not work, but I fail to see it for the moment.
Kipcool[24k]: ah I see now
Move 32
pathogenix[7k]: Variation: white has a double atari
Move 33
Kipcool[24k]: but now I can probably not prevent the invasion from H7 because I should have played H7 instead of H6 ?
pathogenix[7k]: so now what?
pathogenix[7k]: H6 is fine in itself, I Think
pathogenix[7k]: The problem is the weakness of that group
Kipcool[24k]: I hate this game :p (just kidding, but being a beginner give the feeling that I don't control anything)
pathogenix[7k]: Yeah, go is hard :(
Kipcool[24k]: I just got no clue for the next move ;)
pathogenix[7k]: You should protect your corner
Kipcool[24k]: top right or bottom left ?
pathogenix[7k]: Oh, top right
pathogenix[7k]: bottom left is dead, I'm just being safe
Kipcool[24k]: I am trying to evaluate if there is the possibility for forming two eyes in bottom left
pathogenix[7k]: If you think you can see a way to live down there, try it :)
pathogenix[7k]: Nothing to lose
Kipcool[24k]: ok, I will try, then probably resign when I see that it's a lost cause.
pathogenix[7k]: good luck :)
Move 35
January 7, 2016
pathogenix[7k]: Actually, I might have spoken too soon. This fight can get really complicated.
Move 36
Kipcool[24k]: if I knew how to answer your moves correctly ;)
Kipcool[24k]: Ok then, thanks for the interesting game :)
pathogenix[7k]: and you :)
pathogenix[7k]: I don't need to play D3
pathogenix[7k]: that's already a false eye, so I can just connect and stay safe
pathogenix[7k]: Variation: 'cos what are you going to do?
Kipcool[24k]: I don't know how you do these variation, I was hoping that you play D3, then I play B3 and try a ko threat.
pathogenix[7k]: one sec...
pathogenix[7k]: b3?
pathogenix[7k]: Variation: like this?
Kipcool[24k]: yes
pathogenix[7k]: Variation: But ... that's atari
Kipcool[24k]: ah didn't see this one
pathogenix[7k]: :)
Kipcool[24k]: thought you would then play A5
Kipcool[24k]: beginner... :)
pathogenix[7k]: and then you take the ko?
Kipcool[24k]: yes
pathogenix[7k]: Where do you think black would play then?
Kipcool[24k]: you could have just pass a few turns that I gain some advantage :)
Kipcool[24k]: No clue actually what black would do after that
Kipcool[24k]: I didn't plan that much in advance.
pathogenix[7k]: Variation: here
pathogenix[7k]: and now you're in atari again
pathogenix[7k]: and if you connect, you just lose more stones
Kipcool[24k]: indeed this looks bad again :)
pathogenix[7k]: I'll see if I can dig up some of the variations that looked frightening to me
pathogenix[7k]: I think A3 is a good move for black
Kipcool[24k]: could you maybe point out my first wrong move in the game ?
pathogenix[7k]: yeah, sure... one sec
pathogenix[7k]: Variation: this. Don't do this.
Kipcool[24k]: ok :)
pathogenix[7k]: You're starting a fight where you have two liberties, but you're surrounded by two stones with three liberties each
pathogenix[7k]: now sometimes that is okay
pathogenix[7k]: but in this situation...
pathogenix[7k]: E7 -> F5 is a keima, a knight's move
pathogenix[7k]: and F5-> G3 is the same
Kipcool[24k]: I read that this is fine ?
pathogenix[7k]: Keima is a strong move for leaning and attacking, but it can be easily cut... so you're starting a fight where you will have lots of weak points
Kipcool[24k]: I mean not between two stones, but a knight move.
pathogenix[7k]: Show me what you read
pathogenix[7k]: (that's meant to sound friendly, not imperious)
Kipcool[24k]: heh :)
Kipcool[24k]: I just read the introduction by cho chikun so far.
pathogenix[7k]: have you done any problems?
Kipcool[24k]: yes
pathogenix[7k]: good :)
Kipcool[24k]: but I am not good at them at the moment ;)
pathogenix[7k]: I *suck* at go problems
pathogenix[7k]: I'm terrible at life and death, it's my shameful secret
Kipcool[24k]: I've learnt already that the obvious move is always wrong ;)
pathogenix[7k]: I guess it depends what you think is obvious... the basic instinct move is nearly always right
Kipcool[24k]: what are you using for problems ?
Kipcool[24k]: android app, website, ...?
pathogenix[7k]: I have a bunch of PDFs, I use the gochild webite, and I have an Android app - Tsumego Pro
Kipcool[24k]: Ok I have the same app.
Kipcool[24k]: just discovered the goproblems website the other day, looks interesting as it adapts the problems to your level.
pathogenix[7k]: If you send me your email address, I can send you a PDF or two ;)
Kipcool[24k]: thanks
pathogenix[7k]: np. Thanks again for the game, and welcome to OGS :)
pathogenix[7k]: sorry I was in KILL mode at the start, I'm just starting to play again after a long break.
Kipcool[24k]: I am winning some matches already :)
Kipcool[24k]: yeah no problem. Just too bad that there is no tournaments for beginners
pathogenix[7k]: I'm not surprised! You played well overall, I thought, but the wedge was wrong, and then you left to play in the lower-left which meant I could attack two groups at once
Kipcool[24k]: it's always all level mixed from what I have seen.
pathogenix[7k]: hmmm... I think there are some beginner groups
pathogenix[7k]: And I think you can start your own tournaments
pathogenix[7k]: The ladder is great, too, for working your way up from the bottom. That's how I started
Kipcool[24k]: I am in the ladder
Kipcool[24k]: in the 9x9, and I just started the 13x13.
Kipcool[24k]: 19 is too big ;)
pathogenix[7k]: Yeah, 19x19 is a totally different game. I was only playing the 9x9 so I could get back into reading
pathogenix[7k]: Much more emphasis on strategy on the larger board
pathogenix[7k]: you can lose a fight, but make it up somewhere else.
pathogenix[7k]: And at the 25-20 kyu range, you can get a huge lead in the opening by following some simple principles
Kipcool[24k]: this looks nice
pathogenix[7k]: Watch *all* of his videos :)
pathogenix[7k]: Best DDK teacher on the internets
pathogenix[7k]: I <3 Nick Sibicky
Kipcool[24k]: Do all good go players actually have to read books and watch videos to learn =
pathogenix[7k]: I suppose it depends how many years you have available to learn ;)
Kipcool[24k]: Cause I am good at chess, but I never actually read books or anything.
pathogenix[7k]: Tsumego are a requirement, beause so much of go depends on your ability to read
Kipcool[24k]: I am a bit surprise that I suck at go ;)
pathogenix[7k]: the videos and books and things are really to correct your strategic understanding, or show you new shapes and techniques that aren't intuitively obvious
Kipcool[24k]: So I have a few videos to watch for my next week-end thanks ;)
pathogenix[7k]: But you don't need to read theory books until you're a single-digit kyu... just concentrate on staying connected, and keep doing the problems :)
pathogenix[7k]: good luck!
