Move 9
vegetta8787[9k]: Variation: 2
Move 14 + 2
vegetta8787[9k]: Variation: 3
Move 14 + 1
vegetta8787[9k]: Variation: 4
Move 14
vegetta8787[9k]: Do you see?
Move 19
hetdraga[?]: this clearly is not your first rodeo
vegetta8787[9k]: This is a very common weakness
vegetta8787[9k]: if you get caught here you usually cant escpae wathc
Move 19 + 8
vegetta8787[9k]: err sorry not this
Move 18 + 3
vegetta8787[9k]: Variation: 5
Move 18 + 1
vegetta8787[9k]: Variation: 6
Move 18
vegetta8787[9k]: Variation: 7
vegetta8787[9k]: Variation: 8
vegetta8787[9k]: do you see the x? you must not allow it,
vegetta8787[9k]: if that happens, due to the wall, you won't escape
Move 18 + 1
vegetta8787[9k]: Variation: 9
Move 31
vegetta8787[9k]: protect from being captured
vegetta8787[9k]: do you have any questions?
vegetta8787[9k]: if you get surrounded you get captured, you must protect yourself, else you are further away from capturing me, and might never capture if I live
Move 46
hetdraga[?]: suffice to say i am overwhelmed, but I am enjoying your skill in teaching
vegetta8787[9k]: I don't think I am that skilled in teaching TBH, I just know this stuff
hetdraga[?]: fair enough
vegetta8787[9k]: lets say as a beginner rule, you must always defend against atari (that is being capture)
hetdraga[?]: that makes sense
vegetta8787[9k]: that is a good rule for a beginner always try to escape and protect your stones
vegetta8787[9k]: and you must learn about life and death too
hetdraga[?]: :)
vegetta8787[9k]: Variation: 10
hetdraga[?]: do you have these variations already saved??
vegetta8787[9k]: no, I wrote the text
vegetta8787[9k]: this is what happened in game, I jsut comment for the last one
vegetta8787[9k]: as you notice many variations especially for beginners happen when you get backed in a corner
vegetta8787[9k]: this one can happen on outside too
Move 52
vegetta8787[9k]: at move 52 and so on game was basically over
Move 5
vegetta8787[9k]: starting in center on 9x9 usually means you are good at fighting
vegetta8787[9k]: in go, and especially if you move to bigger boards, people usually start in corner
hetdraga[?]: thank you kindly for the insight. how long have you been playing?
vegetta8787[9k]: because the wall helps you gain points
vegetta8787[9k]: it's much harder to invade corner, and it requires less stones to make a base
vegetta8787[9k]: than in center or side
vegetta8787[9k]: on 19x19 if you play first move in center you're very likely to lose (well if you're good lol)
vegetta8787[9k]: you can find much of the basics in links I've send, and under puzzles
Move 10 + 2
hetdraga[?]: thanks again
Move 18
vegetta8787[9k]: well you're welcome
vegetta8787[9k]: if you can still handle I can tell you about life and death lol
hetdraga[?]: seems important
Move 0
hetdraga[?]: thank you
vegetta8787[9k]: you see the board? and my moves?
Move 0 + 6
hetdraga[?]: yep
Move 0 + 8
vegetta8787[9k]: you know about capture right?
hetdraga[?]: yes
Move 0 + 9
vegetta8787[9k]: you know white can't play inside ?
hetdraga[?]: right
vegetta8787[9k]: "suicide" is not allowed
vegetta8787[9k]: but with one exception
vegetta8787[9k]: imagine this
Move 0 + 24
vegetta8787[9k]: right now, white is allowed to play inside black, to capture
Move 0 + 26
vegetta8787[9k]: see?
hetdraga[?]: yep
Move 0 + 18
vegetta8787[9k]: the basis of life and death is called eyes
vegetta8787[9k]: eyes is a hole in your base, stuff you surround
hetdraga[?]: ok
vegetta8787[9k]: one eye means you can die, if you're completely surrounded
vegetta8787[9k]: cause you just play inside
vegetta8787[9k]: two eyes (or more) means you can't
Move 0 + 19
vegetta8787[9k]: this kills, because white has two big eyes
Move 0 + 31
vegetta8787[9k]: Variation: 11
vegetta8787[9k]: This is considered dead
vegetta8787[9k]: watch
vegetta8787[9k]: sry watch
Move 0 + 37
vegetta8787[9k]: see? even if there is space it's still one big eye
Move 0 + 36
vegetta8787[9k]: if white were to play H2 first
vegetta8787[9k]: the shape lives
vegetta8787[9k]: this is the minimal shape to live in corner
vegetta8787[9k]: when you say eye you don't have necessarily have to have only 2 exactly 1 space
vegetta8787[9k]: you can have "big" eyes
vegetta8787[9k]: doed it make sense?
vegetta8787[9k]: Variation: 12
vegetta8787[9k]: this is alive
vegetta8787[9k]: it means it's impossible for black to capture white, even if it completely surrounds the base
vegetta8787[9k]: now life and death is hard, I am believe it or not still a beginner myself, some life and death problems require much skill
vegetta8787[9k]: there are entire books on life and death, but knowing the basics and how to live in corner is important for basics of go
vegetta8787[9k]: does it make sense until now?
hetdraga[?]: i think so.
hetdraga[?]: its a lot to take in
vegetta8787[9k]: ok there is a thing called fake eye
hetdraga[?]: how long have you been playing?
vegetta8787[9k]: it means it looks like an eye, but you can capture it
vegetta8787[9k]: well I played for about a year like 4 years ago, then I stopped and started again a month or two, this year
vegetta8787[9k]: 9k is my level, approximatively on this site
hetdraga[?]: what is the scale?
vegetta8787[9k]: you start at say 30k, and just by understanding the very basics you can get to 25-20k very easily
vegetta8787[9k]: it decreases until 1k,
vegetta8787[9k]: it means 1k is higher than 9k etc
hetdraga[?]: i see
vegetta8787[9k]: the level, not on a small board but on a big board
vegetta8787[9k]: it means, the difference between 1k, means that the lower k can give the difference in stones and still be competitive
vegetta8787[9k]: it means if I play on 19x19 a 1k, he can allow me to place 8 stones on board at the very start, and still be able to win
hetdraga[?]: ok, thats the handicap then
vegetta8787[9k]: usually on this site the k don't mean as much as in real world, like I play lots of 9x9, so I might be 9k on 9x9, but on a 19x19 board I'm closer to 15k maybe even worse
vegetta8787[9k]: yes that is handicap
vegetta8787[9k]: after 1k it goes to dan
vegetta8787[9k]: and it grows
vegetta8787[9k]: 1d, to idk 2 3 IDK exactly how much
vegetta8787[9k]: then you have professional dans
vegetta8787[9k]: so technically between a complete amateur and a 9p (9 dan pro) they can probably win even if you play like 10 stones on board
vegetta8787[9k]: well of course if the handicap is too much, the game becomes unwinnable for anyone
vegetta8787[9k]: imagine you set 20 stones or 30,
vegetta8787[9k]: but you get the idea
hetdraga[?]: while i have enjoyed being trounced, i think i should spend some more time learning before i embarrass myself
vegetta8787[9k]: now ix you want to play "real" go, 19x19 is the way to go
vegetta8787[9k]: I for example am much better at 9x9 than 19x19
vegetta8787[9k]: 9x9 teacher fighting and the basics
vegetta8787[9k]: but on 19x19 people don't play close at all
hetdraga[?]: interestintg
vegetta8787[9k]: if you for example play 19x19 and attack all the stones, against a good player you will lose, they will ignore your moves and play at a distance
vegetta8787[9k]: 19x19 is a much bigger board
Move 0 + 22
vegetta8787[9k]: this shape do you see it?
hetdraga[?]: is this the fake eye?
vegetta8787[9k]: yes, do you see why?
vegetta8787[9k]: or do you see why this is killable?
Move 0 + 24
vegetta8787[9k]: even this
vegetta8787[9k]: if black plays at X, white can't defend, either they lose G2, or they defend and lose one eye
vegetta8787[9k]: either way it's dead
Move 0 + 27
vegetta8787[9k]: see?
hetdraga[?]: i did ( after you showed me )
Move 1 + 12
vegetta8787[9k]: ok
vegetta8787[9k]: there is another rule called ko
hetdraga[?]: this is ko
Move 1 + 13
vegetta8787[9k]: you know of it?
hetdraga[?]: the board has to change
vegetta8787[9k]: yes
Move 0
vegetta8787[9k]: usually people on 9x9, or on bigger boards play corners first
Move 0 + 1
hetdraga[?]: that was one of the only rules i think stuck
Move 0 + 8
vegetta8787[9k]: invading a corner directly like B does, if you play well you won't live
vegetta8787[9k]: not enough space to make 2 eyes
Move 0 + 9
vegetta8787[9k]: do you see the x? if you find yourself in such a position, you must defend
vegetta8787[9k]: if you get cornered you will likely die
vegetta8787[9k]: in the open you can escape, not on the wall
Move 0 + 16
vegetta8787[9k]: one common variation
vegetta8787[9k]: Variation: 13
Move 0 + 14
vegetta8787[9k]: Variation: 14
vegetta8787[9k]: this is called double atari, it means you threaten to capture 2 groups, adn obviously B can't defed both
Move 0 + 4
vegetta8787[9k]: I am not very good at openings or joseki and fuseki or how it's called ( opening theory and how to respond to opponent moves to gain equivalent points as in not to lose)
vegetta8787[9k]: but if you play 3-3 corner, you can try to learn fast how to defend it
vegetta8787[9k]: 3x3 corner you can 100% defend it, if you play it at start of game that is
vegetta8787[9k]: not if it's too late
vegetta8787[9k]: any questions lol?
hetdraga[?]: :D my brain may be full
hetdraga[?]: super kind of you to share your insights
vegetta8787[9k]: well people are usually very friendly in go
hetdraga[?]: this seems to be a very friendly place
vegetta8787[9k]: at least in my experience, there is also chat for chatting
vegetta8787[9k]: and I suggest you check the tutorials under puzzles,
vegetta8787[9k]: you will surely learn a lot!
hetdraga[?]: i will do that, thank you
hetdraga[?]: i appreciate your having taken the time to show me some basics
hetdraga[?]: very kind of you
vegetta8787[9k]: np, feel free to ask questions in the future if you want, and have fun :D
hetdraga[?]: thanks again
hetdraga[?]: you too
vegetta8787[9k]: take care
hetdraga[?]: you as well
