About me:
First game here on Nov. 5, 2017. Knew the rules, but that’s it. First couple games I won: 1 2 - this was about one week in. First correspondence game: 1 (3 weeks in).
Games with useful reviews (thanks!):
- goingunder / spatula
- Don't get into cross-cut fights when your opponent invades where you are strong!
- Beware of tendency to play moves that would have been good few turns earlier.
- Tenuki to more important areas when appropriate.
- forum post - SoftMint
- elx / Flopsy / wingZ
- Better to drive ladders into the edge than to keep them ladder shaped (move 35).
- Just because your opponent tenukis from a ladder doesn't mean you should forget about it when the opponent resumes it (move 49).
- When plans break down, reassess the groups on the board and their relations. Make new plan based on this, don't always try to salvage the old plan. After move 50 black can let white save its upper right corner but kill white's lower left corner instead, which is bigger.
- Don't panic. If you panic, see previous point. -
Flopsy
- Working to split opponent groups often more efficient than trying to kill them.
Small notes on joseki selection.
Get better at killing small groups: Ninja-Go 1 2 3
Don’t terminate games before all territories are properly enclosed: 1 2
Funny games:
Why cutting points are bad
Sometimes it helps to think about your moves
First win against 13k
Lost the battles, but somehow won the war
Got tricked, then tricked my opponent
Triple monkey jump
Capture race fail and success
elx
9x9 handicap (don’t do it!)
